National Trust - The Vyne, Basingstoke

This is a 16th Century country house near Sherbourne St John, visited by Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn in 1535. Also on display is an inscribed Roman ring with a lead tablet that mentions a curse on the one who stole it. This ring and its history is said to have inspired JRR Tolkein to write "The Lord of the Rings".

The project involved the restoration and repair of a substantial brick culvert located below the damn at the northern end of the Upper Lake.
